Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) has declined the call from the German Cycling Federation to lead the national team at the European Championships Glasgow 2018.

The rider will be participating in other competitions with Lotto Soudal, including the Tour de Pologne, and that is the main reason why he has cancelled his appearance at the European competition with the German team.

In Greipel's absence, John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) will take his position after a successful Tour de France in which he won one stage and finished second in the Champs-Elysees stage. "I'm looking forward to wearing the German jersey at the European championships," said the rider.

Degenkolb will have the support of riders like Roger Kluge and Rick Zabel, while Marcel Sieberg will also be absent due to commitments with Lotto Soudal. "The team will support Degenkolb in the best possible way. We are very confident," commented the President of the German Cycling Federation Udo Sprenger.

The rest of the selection will be announced in the next days.
