European Championships Glasgow 2018

Cylance Pro Cycling's Sheyla Gutierrez will be absent from the European Championships of Glasgow. The rider hasn't recovered completely of an accident she suffered last June.

The Spaniard was hit by a car in June and even though he didn't suffer any serious injuries, she has suffered from pain in the back and the head as consequence of the incident. The rider has started in races like the Giro Rosa, Le Course and the Prudential RideLondon Classique after the crash, but she doesn't feel well enough to compete in the European championships.

Her absence diminishes the possibilities of the title for Spain. "It is a shame because she was our main rider," said the National team coach Ramon Gonzalez. "The team was selected based on her: a brave cyclist who can be in front and can be fast in a circuit like this. We hope she recovers soon.

Gutierrez will be replaced by Lucia Gonzalez. Lourdes Oyarbide will also compete in the time trial.

Complete selection of Spain for the European Championships Women's road race (5th of August):

Alicia Gonzalez (Movistar)
Lucía Gonzalez (Bizkaia Durango-Euskadi Murias)
Lourdes Oyarbide (Movistar)
Alba Teruel (Movistar)
Ane Santesteban (Ale Cipollini)
Gloria Rodríguez (Movistar)
