Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) can say that the Clasica San Sebastian is a race that suits him after being in the podium in the last three editions and in 2014.

The Dutchman was beforehand one of the favourites to take the victory of the race and he didn't disappoint. As he did on the past two editions, Mollema attacked at the last climb and could build a gap ahead of the descent and the flat part that takes the riders to the finish line.

In 2016, the attack was strong enough to give him the final victory and last year he finished in the third position of the podium. This time, he had Julian Alaphilippe at his wheel during the attack and the two men arrived together to the finish line, where the Frenchman crossed first the finish line.

"I felt good," said the Dutchman. "But then on the top Alaphilippe was with me. We worked well together, it was one kilometer flat at the top, so we went pretty fast there and had a big gap already.

"And then we went down also fast and then it was just the two of us, but you know he is also fast in the sprint. I tried to hang on a bit and let him do the work the last 2kms especially, but still, he was faster than me."
