Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann has won the second stage of the Tour de Pologne. The German champion was once again the fastest at the final sprint.

The second stage of the Polish race was 156 kilometres long and featured two categorised climbs towards the end of the parcours, just before the city circuit in the city of Krakow. Five riders formed the breakaway of the day: Jan Bakelants, Jenthe Biermans, Evgeny Shalunov, Kamil Gradek and Adam Stachowiak.

They built a gap of more than two minutes with the peloton but got reeled back in with 12 kilometres to go. Everything set the stage for a final sprint, which was faster than the one of the day before because two riders tried to escape in the last kilometre.

Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) showed once again his good form by outsprinting Alvaro Hodeg (Quick-Step Floors) and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo).

"Again, my team, especially Cesare (Benedetti), did a stellar job and protect me the whole day," said the German champion at the end of the day. "Cesare was amazing, he was the whole race at the front and worked so hard.

"In the finale, the team brought me perfectly into position and I started my sprint and was able to overtake the others on the final metres, I am so happy."
