Tejay Van Garderen (BMC Racing Team) has won the prologue at the Tour of Utah. The American team showed its strength in time trials by taking the first three spots of the stage and GC.
The prologue of the American race was 5.3 kilometres long and Van Garderen completed the route six minutes and 27 seconds. The rider was four seconds faster than the rider that set the second best time, his teammate Joey Rosskopf.
The podium of the stage was completed by another BMC rider: Tom Bohli, who stopped the clock at six minutes and 33 seconds.
"I felt good today," said Van Garderen at the end of the stage. "After the Tour, I did a couple of three hour days coming into this race and the rest of them were just easy and purely recovery so, I really had no idea how I was going to respond especially coming into this heat, at altitude, and with such a violent, short effort to tackle.
"I was stepping into the unknown a little but I was motivated and I went through my normal warm-up routine as if I was starting any other time trial. The legs responded well and as soon as I started pushing on the climb, I felt like it could be a good effort."
