Elisa Longo Borghini is becoming the second rider to be confirmed for the new Trek women's team. The rider joins Lizzie Deignan at the American formation.

The rider was the first Italian to win the Tour de Flanders in 2015 and her palmares also includes victories in the Giro dell'Emilia, the Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio and the Strade Bianche. Longo Borghini has also taken the bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games Road Race, the 2012 World Championships Road Race and the 2014 La Fleche Wallone.

The Italian makes the move after being in Wiggle High5 for four years. "Joining the Trek family was a decision that made sense for lots of reasons," she said. "For one, they are putting together a truly high-level team, with aspirations to be competing for podiums right away. To see this world-class roster come together in this short a window is impressive and inspiring.

"The second part of this is the solid physical infrastructure and support they are providing. We will have what we need when we need it so that racing is the only concern. And lastly, the staff support is strong. Not only with Ina (Teutenberg) leading the program, but we will also have true professionals around us at all times, helping us every step of the way."
