Quick-Step Floors' Fabio Jakobsen has won the first stage of the BinckBank Tour. This victory is the fourth of the year for the 21-year-old.

Jakobsen beat Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) and Caleb Ewan at the final sprint. "It’s my biggest victory since turning pro and I’m really proud of myself and the team, who put their confidence in me this morning and did a perfect job," he said.

"We had bad weather and the peloton was really nervous as we approached the line, but the team was flawless and starting the race in this manner gives us great confidence.

Quick-Step Floors worked perfectly in the last kilometres to put the rider in a good position ahead of the final metres. "Tim (Declercq) was again amazing, showing it’s not for nothing that he is called ‘The Tractor’, while Max (Schachmann), Niki (Terpstra) and Styby (Zdenek Stybar) did a perfect job, keeping Yves (Lampaert), Florian (Senechal) and myself in front," he explained.

"In the final kilometre, I just took Florian’s wheel, who did an incredible lead-out from 600 meters out, and I opened my sprint inside the closing 250 meters. I could feel the others were close, but I managed to come on top and this gives me great joy. We don’t want to stop here and hopefully, we will get other strong results, in both stages and the general classification, over the next days."
