Viacheslav Kuznetsov (Katusha-Alpecin) and Yukiya Arashiro (Bahrain-Merida) are out of the BinckBank Tour in consequence of the injuries sustained at a crash at the last kilometres of the stage.

The first stage of the race of the Netherlands and Belgium was in rainy conditions almost from the start. At the last kilometres, the peloton was compact and there was a crash due to the slipperiness of the road that affected several riders, but mainly Kuznetsov and Arashiro.

The Russian rider of Katusha-Alpecin remained on the floor the longest and it was visible in television images that medical services were working on putting him on a stretcher to take him to the hospital. "(Viacheslav) won't start tomorrow in stage 2 of the BinckBank Tour," said the team in a tweet.

"Final diagnosis: fractured sternum, concussion of the brain and bruised kidney. Get well soon, Slava!"

Arashiro also suffered serious injuries from the crash that have also stopped him from riding on the second stage. "(Yukiya) crashed on today's stage 1 and unfortunately, after X-Rays at the local hospital, Dr Uliari gave this diagnosis: He has an elbow fracture in the top of the radial capitellum and he is forced to withdraw from the race," said Bahrain-Merida in a tweet.
