Taco van der Hoorn (Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij) has won the third stage of the BinckBank Tour. The Dutchman was the fastest man of the breakaway of the day, which was not reeled back in by the peloton.

The third stage of the Dutch-Belgian race was 174.9 kilometres long between Aalter and Antwerp. The escape of the day was formed by Sean De Bie (Veranda's Willems-Crelan), Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida), Maxime Vantomme (WB Aqua Protect Vreanclassic), Jesper Asselman and Taco van der Hoorn (Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij).

The front group built a gap of more than four minutes with a peloton pulled by teams like LottoNL-Jumbo and BMC Racing Team, the latter trying to protect the leader's jersey of Stefan Küng. Some kilometres later, Quick-Step Floors and Mitchelton-Scott took the lead of the pack to force for a bunch finale for their sprinters Fabio Jakobsen and Caleb Ewan.

Despite all the efforts from the peloton, the escape group wasn't caught and the stage victory was set to be fought among the five men. All of the men tried to unsuccessfully launch an attack but arrive together to the finish line, in which Van der Hoorn showed to have the better legs.

Vantomme was second and De Bie was third. The better-positioned man in GC of the escape was Mohoric, who got the leader's jersey at the end of the day. De Bie took the second overall position and Küng is now third at 22 seconds from the rider of Bahrain-Merida.
