Mikel Landa (Movistar) is not going to start at the upcoming Vuelta a España, reports Spanish newspaper Marca.

The Spaniard was one of the most affected riders at a crash in the last 20 kilometres of the Clasica San Sebastian. A first diagnosis pointed at a "fracture on the spinous process of his lumbar vertebra L1" and further examinations unveiled more injuries: "a non-displaced rib fracture on his right-hand side."

Landa and Movistar were counting on a recovery on time for the last Grand Tour of the season, but the Spanish sports paper has unveiled that this hasn't been possible. The team is set to announce later in the week the roster that will support the two captains: Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana.

Marca reports that the recovery was going well but that Landa was unable to stand the pain during the first indoor training. After consultation with the team experts, the rider has taken the decision to be absent at the grand tour of his home country.
