Simon Yates is set to lead a strong and versatile team for the Vuelta a España. Mitchelton-Scott will not only fight for a good GC position, but also for stages.

The team had already announced that Simon Yates would be the main man for the GC ambitions and that he will have the company of his twin brother Adam. The roster of the Australian formation will also include Matteo Trentin for the fast stages and Luka Mezgec, who already won one stage at the Giro d'Italia.

"Certainly our objective for the Vuelta is the general classification like we have already said," commented Sports Director Julian Dean. "But when you have a guy like Trentin, who last year won four stages, and a guy like Luka Mezgec, who has won stages at the Giro before, you can’t come into a race and not look for opportunities where these guys can potentially win stages.

"The idea is to manage our resources. Obviously now with eight riders, it takes a little bit more juggling, but we’ve certainly got enough talent and racing nous to look for opportunities without spending too much energy to keep our options open for stage wins and complete the GC support roles."

Newly crowned European champion Trentin is looking forward to seizing every chance he can at the last grand tour of the season. "After all of the trouble at the start of the year, the Vuelta has become the biggest target of the year for me because I didn’t perform how I wanted at the Classics and I missed the Tour de France and some other races with injury," the Italian explained.

"After the European Championships I am starting with the jersey so for sure my confidence and morale have been boosted more for this Vuelta."

Mitchelton-Scott's complete roster for the Vuelta a España (25th of August-16th of September):

Michael Albasini
Alexander Edmondson
Jack Haig
Damien Howson
Luka Mezgec
Matteo Trentin
Adam Yates
Simon Yates
