The short news of the day includes a new signing for Astana, a contract extension at BMC Racing team and LottoNL-Jumbo's new clothing partner.

Rodrigo Contreras signs with Astana Pro Team

The young Colombian has reached an agreement with the Kazakh team for the 2019 season. The rider had already been at the WorldTour level with Quick-Step first as a stagiaire in 2016 and then in the first team in 2016.

"This is a huge opportunity, which my life provides me," said Contreras. "I step on a new way to reach new goals and dreams. First of all, I hope to be able to do my best to help Astana Team to reach new victories and triumphs. I am waiting for myself an improvement of my abilities day by day to become a strong athlete and real professional rider. For me, it is a big honour to join this great Astana Pro Team."

Patrick Bevin extends contract with Continuum Sports

The New Zealander has extended his contract with the currently known as BMC Racing Team beyond the 2018 season. The rider arrived in the American formation in 2018.

"In the eight months since Patrick Bevin joined us at Continuum Sports, he has impressed with his time trialling, teamwork, and professionalism, so we knew we wanted to keep him in the team when we secured CCC as our title sponsor for the 2019 season," said the team's General Manager Jim Ochowicz. "Patrick has clocked some impressive time trial results throughout the season, including second in the Pais Vasco and AMGEN Tour of California time trials, and it is only a matter of time before he stands on the top step of the podium. Patrick's strength in the discipline has seen him play a crucial role in our team time trial success, most notably at the Tour de France which was a key reason for his selection."

LottoNL-Jumbo partners with clothing company AGU

The Dutch company will partner with the team for the long term and with the intention of developing the fastest clothing in the peloton. The brand had already sponsored Panasonic and Rabobank in the past.

"AGU’s innovative ambitions fit in seamlessly with the growth path of our team," said LottoNL-Jumbo's manager Richard Plugge. "We know AGU from the past. The quality of their products and their extensive experience were the decisive factors for us to choose AGU. Moreover, we are proud of our Dutch character. It is good that we can strengthen it with this cooperation."

"It’s fantastic to be back at the highest level", commented Björn Jeurissen, CEO of AGU. "We are extremely proud of the fact that Team LottoNL-Jumbo has chosen AGU. It is a testament to the quality of our cycling gear and accessories. We look forward to working with the riders of Team LottoNL-Jumbo to develop the highest quality, innovative and aerodynamic cycling apparel so that this can be passed on to all cyclists through our collection."
