Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky) has finished the third stage of the Vuelta a España with the peloton and he could hold on to the Red Jersey for one more stage.

The third stage of the Spanish grand tour finished in a bunch sprint and the Pole arrived in the end with the pack. "It was pretty straightforward today," he commented. "It was nice to be up there at the front of the bunch, out of trouble. It was a very nervous finish, a lot of guys tried to break (at the end), with a lot of roundabouts and corners, short little climbs.

"It is always better to be on the front, also controlling Alejandro Valverde because I know he really wants this red jersey. I tried to stay behind him and not allow him to get any bonus seconds."

Kwiatkowski is happy to be the GC leader and wants to defend his position in the next stage, the first mountain day of the race. "I’m so happy to have the jersey for another day, tomorrow is going to be a hard one, we’ll need to be very smart in the final climb," he explained.
