Ben King of Dimension Data was elated with his victory in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España, in which he outsprinted his nearest rival to be able to lift his arms on the line.
The American had not won a grand tour stage before, making this victory all the more special.
"It's a dream come true," he said. "I really can't believe it. I didn't start believing until the last kilometer and I'm really happy for the way it worked out. I'm happy for the confidence that the team put in me, giving me the opportunity.
"We've been building all season towards this. We raced together with this team in Austria and the Tour of Burgos and the atmosphere has just continued to improve on the team. The spirits are high and we're looking forward to more in the rest of this month. But I'm still in shock.
"I set winning a grand tour stage as a goal for myself at the beginning of this year. Something that I really had to keep believing in, that I had that potential. This is really an affirmation. I worked so hard for this and me and my wife have sacrificed so much to make this happen."
In addition, King emphasized the importance of getting this win wearing the shirt of Dimension Data.
"It's great to cross the line and gain some publicity and exposure for Qhubeka. We're doing amazing things in South Africa, distributing bikes. You really see the difference that that can make in people's lives, so in the grand scheme of things a victory in a bike race is nothing compared to the big difference that we can make down there.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity, to represent such an incredible charity and working for a team like Dimension Data. It's awesome."
