Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) has been given a 20 seconds penalty on the day he took the leaders' jersey at the Vuelta a España. Despite that, he keeps the overall lead of the race.
Spanish newspaper AS reports that the penalty was given because he received a bottle within the last 10 kilometres of the stage, which is not allowed. In addition to the 20 seconds penalty, the rider will have to pay 200 Swiss Francs.
Despite the penalty, the rider keeps an advantage of 41 seconds in the General Classification over Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky), and of 48 seconds over Bora-hansgrohe's Emanuel Buchmann.
The Sports paper also mentions that Cofidis' Nacer Bouhanni also received a penalty of 20 seconds and five points less in the Points Classification for a fight he had with his Director Sportif, Jean-Luc Jonrond, and hitting the team car afterwards. The car has been relegated to the last position in the caravan for the sixth stage.
