Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) has taken the victory at the third stage of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain. Patrick Bevin was second on the stage and climbed to the first position of the General Classification.

The third stage of the British race was 128 kilometres long in and around Bristol with a profile that included one climb of the second category and one of the first.

Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal), Matthew Holmes (Madison Genesis), Pascal Eenkhoorn (LottoNL-Jumbo), Romain Cardis (Direct Energie), Jose Fernandes (EF Education First) and Iljo Keisse (Quick-Step Floors) were the men that were in the first breakaway of the day. They got an advantage of almost half a minute over the pack but the pace of the peloton managed to catch them with 66 kilometres to go.

Ben Swift (Great Britain), Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin), Jon Mould (JLT Condor) and Angelo Tulik (Direct Energie) formed the second escape of the day and the one that lasted the longest, with 60 kilometres to go.

The front group was caught with 10 kilometres to go and the favourites organised themselves at the front of the peloton ahead of the last climb of the day. Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors) set a high pace to help his teammate Julian Alaphilippe and the Frenchman did his work well and crossed the finish line ahead of Patrick Bevin (BMC) and Emils Lipens (One Pro Cycling).

The second position of Bevin at the stage gave him the lead on the General Classification.
