Elia Viviani of Quick-Step Floors took a second stage win in this year's Vuelta a España on Tuesday and praised his teammate for what he called one of the most perfect lead-outs.

The Italian easily beat world champion Peter Sagan on the line to take his sixth win in a grand tour in 2018.

"I think it's one of the most perfect lead-outs we've done this year. The guys did a really good job. We had two sprints, one where Valverde won where we didn't do anything and one where I was third when we made mistake.

"Today we had a little bit more pressure. If you are the fastest, you don't want to lose the race. It's my 17th win this year and this win is for all these guys in the lead-out. You see the kind of lead-out they did for me today. It was amazing."

This season has been one of great success for Viviani, who also won the Italian Road Race Championship in June and won several other stages and points classifications in WorldTour races.

"It's a good feeling to win two stages in the Vuelta after four stage wins in the Giro. This really amazing season keeps going on. It'll be difficult to beat this season. I hope to be in the perfect moment of my career and in the perfect team.

"This is for all the team and the family. Elena (Cecchini, Viviani's girlfriend) came here yesterday for the rest day. I really spent the rest day in the best way possible and today I had full energy to try and sprint again in front of all these champions."
