Team Sunweb's Michael Matthews took the victory at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec. The Australian was the fastest man at the final sprint.

The first of the two Canadian races was 201.6 kilometres long, divided into 16 rounds of 12.6 kilometres each, and in each of them, the riders had to pass through three climbs. Nicolas Dougall, Rob Britton, Guy Sagiv, Alex Cataford and Bruno Langlois formed the escape of the race and took an advantage of more than six minutes with the peloton.

BMC Racing Team, Bahrain-Merida and Sunweb took control of the peloton to force a final sprint. With 30 kilometres to go, there were several attacks and the strongest one was of Peter Kennaugh (Bora-hansgrohe) who went away on his own and overtook all the remaining escapees.

The Briton arrived to the last kilometre on his own but the peloton behind him was very fast and caught him with 250 metres to go. The fast men launched their sprints and Michael Matthews (Sunweb) crossed the finish line ahead of Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) and Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo).

"Wow, I'm super happy with the day I had, it really was a good day out today. The boys supported me really well throughout the day, and I'm just super happy that I could finish it off for them with a really strong sprint at the end," the Australian commented.
