Dylan van Baarle has been forced to finish his season early after doctors discovered a fracture caused by his crash at the 12th stage of the Vuelta a España.

The rider was one of the victims of the finish line crash La Vuelta as he, along with Alexandre Geniez, crashed into one of the officials of the race. Van Baarle suffered a fracture on the right side of his pelvis, an injury that requires complete rest.

"It is obviously not the way I wanted to end the season, but I’m trying to be positive and instead look ahead," said the Dutchman to "My focus turns towards next season and soon I'll hopefully be both free of the pain and of the injury, so I can get ready for next year."

"Dylan had a scan last night and another one repeated this morning," explained team doctor Neil Heron. "It confirmed a fracture in the right side of his pelvis, above the hip joint. This will require a period of complete rest over the next few weeks and then we will start to build up the strength in the leg and then reintroduce cycling activities. Unfortunately for Dylan, this means his season is over."

Van Baarle was set to represent the Netherlands at the time trial of the upcoming World Championships of Innsbruck.
