The transfer market news of the day includes signings by Sunweb and Bahrain-Merida, as well as a contract extension in Ale-Cipollini.

Marc Hirschi and Casper Pedersen join Team Sunweb

The Swiss and the Danish riders will step up to the WorldTour with a three-year contract, until the end of 2021. Hirschi steps up from the development program of Sunweb while Pedersen does it from Aqua Blue Sport.

"I have dreamed of being a professional cyclist for so long, this is my childhood dream coming true," said Hirschi. "I 100 per cent believe that Team Sunweb is the best option for me and my development as a rider and I’m super happy to be making this big step in my career. I’m really proud to become a part of the WorldTour program and look forward to the new challenges that it will bring."

"I am really happy to sign with Team Sunweb," affirmed Pedersen. "I’ve been wanting to become a part of this team for years, so it’s truly a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to get to work with a new team of riders and staff and I look forward to continuing my development as a rider and playing a part in what I hope are many successes together."

Chloe Hosking extends contract with Ale-Cipollini

The Australian, winner of the Road Race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, will ride for her third season at the Italian team. "I am so happy, I feel something very special with the team, our Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti, the President Alessia Piccolo," she commented.

"My ambitions grow year by year: I would like to help my younger teammates in their developments, and I am very excited as well to help Soraya (Paladin) and Anna (Trevisi) to make the next step in their careers. About myself, the podium places in the Spring Classics need to become victories, and I want to perform well in the 2019 World Championships in Yorkshire."

Bahrain Merida announces signing of Andrea Garosio

The 25-year-old Italian is currently one of the stagiaires of the team and has signed a contract for the 2019 season. "It’s a very big step and very big opportunity for me," the rider commented. "I’m thrilled to become a part of such an important cycling team. I’ve enjoyed every moment as a stagiaire so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best riders in the WorldTour.

"I want to say a huge thank you to the Team Management and to Paolo Slongo as well, who knows me since when I was in the Junior category. I didn’t get where I am without his precious advice and help. I’m looking forward to starting the upcoming season and giving everything possible for the team."
