Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe) has been chosen as the leader for the German team at the World Championships of Innsbruck.

The rider has shown a good performance at the current Vuelta a España and he is even aiming at a top 10 position in the overall classification of the race. "I think with Emanuel as captain and the other five men we really have good options," said the German Federation's Vice President Udo Sprenger.

"Specially Maximilian Schachmann and Simon Geschke are also in top form. We look confidently at the World Championships. And also we have very good chances in other races, for example, the U23 with Lennard Kämna and Max Kanter, who can fight for medal positions."

Four-time time trial World Champion Tony Martin will come back to racing in the time trial event after finishing his recovery from the spinal fracture that he suffered at the 2018 Tour de France.

Lisa Brennauer, winner of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour, will lead the women's team at the road race and will also take part in the individual time trial.
