Enric Mas (Quick-Step Floors) got onto the second step of the final podium of the Vuelta a España in Madrid after successfully finishing the last stage of the race.

The rider is the first Spaniard in three years to step on the podium at the Spanish grand tour. "It will take a few days for this to sink in, because it’s been an awesome adventure, at the end of which I am very grateful to my teammates and staff," he commented.

The outstanding performance at the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a España gave the rider the second position of the overall classification. Mas now dreams of achieving something else with the team of his country at the upcoming World Championships.

"Second and best young rider is something I wouldn’t have dreamed of at the start of the race, but arriving in Madrid having achieved this makes me extremely happy," the Spaniard explained.

"From here, I will fly to Innsbruck for the World Championships, where I want to help Spain get a good result, before my last races of the season with Quick-Step Floors."
