Mikel Landa will not be starting at the road race of the upcoming World Championships. The rider of Movistar took the decision after participating at the Giro della Toscana.

Landa started at the Italian race and after two-thirds of the course, decided to retire. The rider suffered lumbar and rib fractures after a crash at the Clasica San Sebastian and he is not feeling at 100 per cent to be part of the World Championships.

"After starting today at the Giro della Toscana with Movistar, Mikel Landa got in touch with the national coach Javier Minguez, to inform him that he still doesn't feel one hundred per cent on the bike after recovering from the heavy fall he suffered at the Clasica de San Sebastian."

The Spaniard will be replaced on the team by Astana's Omar Fraile. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), Enric Mas (Quick-Step Floors), Ion Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida), Jesus Herrada (Cofidis), Mikel Nieve (Mitchelton-Scott), David de la Cruz and Jonathan Castroviejo (Sky) complete the team that will represent Spain at the Championships.
