The transfer market news of the day includes contract renewals of EF Education First and Sunweb, as well as new signings from Sunweb, BMC Racing Team, Mitchelton-Scott and Dimension Data.

Hugh Carthy renews contract with EF Education First

The Briton has been in the American team since 2017, when he climbed with it to the WorldTour, and will stay there until at least 2020.

"I’m happy here," said Carthy. "I’m happy that I have been allowed to grow and develop without significant pressure. The development process varies in length between different riders, so it’s important to have belief and trust behind you."

Sunweb signs one rider and extend two contracts

The Dutch team has confirmed the signing of 17-year-old Pfeiffer Georgi. "I wanted to join Team Sunweb because they provide young riders with opportunities to develop, which I feel is really unique and something really important to a young rider like me," she said. "I’m very excited to meet the team and am looking forward to making the step up into the pro peloton next year."

Sunweb has also confirmed the contract extensions of Lucinda Brand and Julia Soek. "I wanted to join Team Sunweb because they provide young riders with opportunities to develop, which I feel is really unique and something really important to a young rider like me," Brand commented. "I’m very excited to meet the team and am looking forward to making the step up into the pro peloton next year."

"I’m super happy to extend my contract for another year with the team," Soek added. "This is going to be my sixth season in this team so I think it’s safe to say that we are a good match. I really like the way of working and all the people who are involved. I’ve seen the Women’s program develop every year and I’m excited for what 2019 will bring."

Laurens ten Dam sign for Continuum Sports

The Dutch rider will bring his 16 years of experience as professional to the currently known as BMC Racing Team. The 37-year-old will be the only rider from the Netherlands in the squad.

"I wasn't necessarily looking to change teams but I'm not afraid to change, I've done it quite a few times in my career, and this was a good opportunity that presented itself," ten Dam commented. "I really welcome the chance for a carte blanche, a clean slate, and to join Continuum Sports with some new goals and opportunities, as well as having some more freedom."

Dion Smith steps up to the WorldTour with Mitchelton-Scott

The New Zealander has signed a two-year contract with the Australian formation. He has shown a huge potential in several fields, making him an interesting addition to the team.

"Reaching the top level in professional cycling is a massive goal of mine and now I am 25 and about to sign for a WorldTour team, but not only that, with the team that I've aspired to be a part of for years being a rider from the Southern Hemisphere," Smith commented. "Mitchelton-Scott has always been an exciting dream."

Dimension Data signs deal with Giacomo Nizzolo

The 29-year-old sprinter will join the African team from Trek-Segafredo, where he has been since he became a professional in 2011. "It’s an emotional moment for me, as I am changing teams for the first time in my pro career," he said.

"Coming off two seasons in which physical issues have affected the chances to pursue my goals, I chose the project that showed me the greatest trust and that could put me in the best position to go for the big targets."
