Nick Schultz has been chosen as the replacement of Richie Porte at the Australian team for the road race of the World Championships of Innsbruck.

The rider of the Spanish team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA will be joining the Australian team after Porte announced his withdrawal due to an infection in the airways that has stopped him from training since the end of the Vuelta a España.

"It is an honour to be selected to represent Australia at the World Championships," Schultz commented. "I will give my maximum to deliver whatever is required. I would also like to wish Richie a speedy recovery and thank Cycling Australia for their faith in selecting me."

Schultz has just finished the Vuelta a España and will have a specific role in the team. "Nick is coming into the team in a specific climbing support role," said Team Performance Director Simon Jones.

"He has just completed the Vuelta and he has the form and desire to contribute to the team strategy. I want to thank Nick for taking up this late opportunity."
