The UCI has chosen the locations for the Road World Championships for 2020, 2021 and 2024. The decisions were taken during the competitions of Innsbruck, Austria.

The 2020 edition of the World Championships will be in the Cantons of Vaud and Valais in Switzerland. This will be the 11th time the discipline gets the events in the country, but it will be the first for its French-speaking region, with the competitions taking place mainly in the region of the Rhone valley, in the heart of the Alps, and very close to the UCI headquarters.

The next year, the competitions will go to the Flanders region of Belgium, one of the most important sites for road cycling on the planet. This will be the first time the event comes back after the edition of Zolder and Hasselt of 2002 and will take place over a typical Flanders circuit to mark the centenary of the championships.

In 2024, the Championships return to Switzerland but this time its German region. The riders will compete in circuits around the Jura mountains and the Alps, and the UCI Para-cycling World Championships for the road will be organised in parallel.

The UCI also announced that the 2025 edition of the World Championships will take place in Africa, but the place hasn't been confirmed yet.
