LottoNL-Jumbo's Danny van Poppel has won the Binche-Chimay-Binche, also known as the Memorial Frank Vandenbroucke. The rider accelerated at the last metres and crossed the finish line on his own.

A strong group of riders managed to break free from the rest in the last kilometres of the race and Quick-Step Floors' Zdenek Stybar seemed to be heading for the win but the others caught him in the last kilometres. The race seemed to be sentenced for a final sprint, but Van Poppel accelerated at the last moment and crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step Floors) and Oliver Naesen (AG2R-La Mondiale).

The Belgian race was the last competition of the season for the rider and he finishes the year just as he started it, as he also took the victory at the first stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. "This is really nice and funny that I win my first and my last race of the season," said the Dutchman. "The shape is still good and I wanted to ride. It is nice to end the year this way. The team did a great job and everything fell into place.

"It is never easy, but this time, everything worked out well. That’s the difference with some other races this season. We were able to play two cards at the end, with Dylan (Groenewegen) and me. Dylan gave me the chance to go for it and I’m glad I could finish it this way."
