Team Sunweb's Max Walscheid has taken the victory at the Münsterland Giro. The German rider was the fastest at the final sprint and beat John Degenkolb and Nils Politt.

The 210.8-kilometre race took place between Coesfeld and Münster in Germany. The peloton broke in two and around 40 riders took the lead, while behind teams like Dimension-Data were pulling hard to try to bring the group together.

At around 25 kilometres from the finish line, Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) and Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) made a jump from the second group to the first group. The Norwegian continued his attack and rode away from the front pack but was caught with one kilometre to go.

Walscheid finished a good work of Sunweb by crossing the finish line ahead of John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) and Nils Politt (Katusha-Alpecin). The entire German top-five was completed by Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) and Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe).

"I'm super happy to win one of my favourite races and it means so much to win while I'm in Germany," Walscheid commented. "As a team, we were really strong today and we had five riders in the first group after the crosswinds.

"We kept our nerves and kept the legs quiet to wait for the sprint. We trusted in my ability to win the sprint and in the end, I'm super happy to finish it off."
