Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) is already thinking of his 2019 season and his two first targets will be the Tour de France and the Amstel Gold Race.
"I would like to go to the Tour and the team would like me to go to the Tour, so basically we are on the same page here," said the rider to Dutch broadcaster NOS.
But Dumoulin doesn't rule out any grand tours just yet, particularly since the routes have not been announced. "I don't want to slam any doors yet. If the courses are not known yet I always think is risky to say: I will ride this grand tour next year or the other one," he explained.
"Maybe there will be an announcement of a course of which I will think: There I don't have any chance to reach the podium."
It is already known that the Giro 2019 will start with a time trial in Bologna and the course of the Tour de France is still unknown, but if the rider decides to ride the Grande Boucle, he will definitely combine it with the Amstel Gold Race. "When I have done it in the past, the Spring has not really turned out to be my best moment of the season, but I think it will be very nice to be in that race.
"If I will do my season with a focus on the Tour, I will probably set a first peak moment in the month of April and then the Amstel will be back in my calendar." The last time Dumoulin started in the Amstel Gold Race was in 2016.
