Chris Froome (Team Sky) has confirmed his participation at the Tour Colombia, formerly known as Colombia Oro y Paz, next February. Alejandro Valverde will likely also be at the race.

The Colombian Cycling Federation confirmed the participation of the four-time Tour de France winner through a video message of the rider.

The president of the Colombian Cycling Federation Jorge Ovidio Gonzalez earlier commented on the news to the country's website A Puro Pedal. "Next year around 27 or 28 teams will be starting at the race, among them seven of the WorldTour," he explained. "We are 99% certain that Chris Froome and Alejandro Valverde will be starting in the race, as well as other world stars.

"The race will have the participation of 175 riders, including a Colombian selection that will include extraordinary cycling stars that can't be in the competition with their respective foreign teams."

The Tour Colombia is a 2.1. race that will take place between the 12th and the 17th of February in the Colombian department of Antioquia, around the same places that Froome already saw in the recent exhibition race 'Giro de Rigo'. "There will be six amazing stages, three of them around La Union, Santuario, La Ceja and Rionegro," Gonzalez explained.

"The other three stages will be in the city of Medellin, around the Metropolitan area."

The first edition of the Colombian race took place in 2017 and the final victory went to Team Sky's Egan Bernal.
