The Belgian Cycling Federation has announced that Rik Verbrugghe will take charge of coaching the elite and the U23 national selections.

The Belgian will be replacing Kevin De Weert, who coached the team until the World Championships of Innsbruck. De Weert will be joining Lotto-Soudal from 2019 as a performance manager.

Verbrugghe will do this work at the same time with his role at Bahrain-Merida. Before that, he was sports director in Quick-Step, BMC and IAM Cycling. He also had success as a professional rider by taking the victory at the 2001 Fleche Wallonne, as well as of three stages of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France.

Cyclocross coach Sven Vanthourenhout will be the assistant of Verbrugghe for the U23 team.
