Lotto Soudal's Thomas De Gendt has already his eyes set on the 2019 season and he has the objective of riding all three Grand Tours.

Without a doubt, De Gendt likes a good challenge, like those that made him known as the "breakaway man" or when he decided to go back to Belgium from Il Lombardia by bike next to Tim Wellens. Now the rider has new objectives: to ride the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in 2019.

"I will start at the Tour Down Under, then Paris-Nice, the Volta a Catalunya, the Tour de Romandie, the Giro, the Tour and the Vuelta," explained De Gendt to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

"I will recover in between them. I still have to discuss it with the team but I can more or less choose my own program."

The Belgian discussed this while he was doing an exploration ride at the cobbled Berg Ten Houte, in the East Flemish municipality of Maarkedal, where there is a new strip of cobblestones to attract the Spring Classics. "It is more difficult than it looks," said the rider.

"This would be a perfect opener for the final of a big race, after this you would have to work a little to maintain your position."
