Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus) has won his second race in a row at the Cyclocross World Cup at Tabor, Czech Republic. The rider crossed the finish line 14 seconds ahead of Michael Vanthourenhout.

Van der Poel attacked in the second lap of the race and took a good advantage over the group. "After one and a half round I thought it was urgent to attack because we were in a very large group," said the Dutchman.

"Actually, I didn't have the plan to attack immediately, but on a technical piece, where they were not expecting it, I got a gap."

After suffering incidents on the course on the last days, Van der Poel was glad to avoid any crashes during the race. "I immediately had the right feeling and could do my thing: ride at my own pace and choosing my own lines," he explained.

"I'm glad I didn't fall on the bars. I fell yesterday and again today during the warm up. I'm glad that I have been spared at the race."

The Belgian rider Toon Aerts, who won the first two races of the World Cup at Waterloo and Iowa, keeps the lead of the standings with 225 points. Wout van Aerts follows him closely with 210 points and Quinten Hermans is on the third position with 175 points.
