Team Sunweb's Tom Dumoulin has shown doubts about his participation at the 2019 edition of the Tour de France. The rider is not convinced if he could tackle a route like the one of the race.

The Dutchman had already shown his apprehension about the route of the 2019 Tour de France, which includes very little time trial kilometres. "The design of the Tour de France is far from ideal for me," said the rider to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "I don't think that there has been any Grand Tour in the last years that fits me so badly."

The French Grand Tour will include 27 kilometres of individual time trial, while the Giro d'Italia will have three different days of the discipline and a total of 59 kilometres. "In all respects, the Giro is much better for me," added Dumoulin.

The calendar for the upcoming season has not been decided yet and the rider is not clear about what can be best for him. "I won the Giro once, while it is my big challenge to win the Tour after taking the second place behind Geraint Thomas last summer," he explained.

"At the end of July, I clearly stated that this race would become my big goal. I wonder now if I should put everything on the Tour in 2019. After the first discussions with the team, we will choose a grand tour, I currently don't really have a preference, so the team has the decisive vote."
