Wout van Aert and Jumbo-Visma have reached an agreement for the rider to join the team in March of 2019. The Belgian was set to join the team in 2020.

The cyclocross world champion left the team Veranda's Willems - Crelan after it announced a merger with the Dutch Roompot. Van Aert has been riding without a team for the last part of 2018 and has reached an agreement with Jumbo-Visma for 2019.

The rider will start riding for the Dutch team from the first of March of 2019 and will stay at least three years there. "I think I achieved great results last year and that's why I had the opportunity to talk with different teams", the rider commented.

"At one point, Team Jumbo-Visma knocked on my door, a team that really appealed to me. Due to circumstances, I will be able to move up the ranks in 2019 already. It feels good that I can step up to the WorldTour because I think I can develop myself a lot at that level."

Jumbo-Visma's manager Richard Plugge looks forward to seeing the development of Van Aert into a classics rider. "We were interested in Wout for 2020", he explained. "Things have all gone faster than planned and we can welcome him to our team earlier.

"That's very good news for the team because we're getting stronger. He's a very big talent and we hope to be able to develop him into the classic rider we all see in him."
