The organisation of the Volta a Catalunya has announced that its women's race, known as the reVolta, will not be held in 2019.

The Spanish race has informed that the women's race will not be celebrated due to the incompatibility of the calendar. Regardless of the efforts made by the organisation of the race, it won't happen in 2019 but will be back in 2020.

The reVolta was set to have its second edition on the 31st of March of 2019, on the last day of the men's race, but the Belgian Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields, which is part of the women's WorldTour calendar, is set to be on that same date.

"La Volta Ciclista a Catalunya wants to reaffirm its commitment to women's sports and is committed to making all possible efforts so that the 'reVolta' returns in 2020 stronger to live a second edition of the event, coinciding with the centenary of the 'Volta'," explained the organisation in a press release.

The first edition of the race was on the same route including the Montjuic circuit in Barcelona and was won by Cylance Pro Cycling's Lauren Stephens.
