UAE Team Emirates' Fernando Gaviria hasn't started in the third stage of the Tour Colombia. The Colombian rider didn't feel well from the day before and took the decision of withdrawing from the race.

Despite being in his hometown at the third stage of the Tour Colombia, Gaviria didn't take part in the final sprint because he wasn't feeling well. He told Sebastian Molano to replace him as the fast man of the stage and stayed behind at the end of the day.

At the start of the third stage of the South American race, UAE Team Emirates confirmed that the rider is suffering from a respiratory infection that has forced him out of the race. "We had a meeting this morning and took the decision of his withdrawn," said General Manager Matxin Fernandez to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.

"During the stage of La Ceja, he suffered from cramps and then he had some vomiting. He couldn't recover and then started a treatment of antibiotics."

The third stage of the Colombian race was won by Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Alvaro Hodeg. "At the last part of the stage Fernando told me that he wasn't feeling well and that he would like very much if I'd win," said the rider after his stage victory.
