Bahrain-Merida's Sonny Colbrelli has outsprinted Greg Van Avermaet and Clement Venturini to take the victory of the fourth stage in the Tour of Oman.

The fourth stage of the Omani race was 131 kilometres long and early on an escape group was formed by Nathan van Hooydonck (CCC Team), Darwin Atapuma (Cofidis), Ian Boswell (Katusha Alpecin), Damien Gaudin (Direct Energie) and Jeremy Leveau (Delko Marseille Provence). Astana took control of the peloton to defend the GC lead of Alexey Lutsenko.

The front group got slimmer as the kilometres past and behind them, CCC Team took control of the pace of the pack to take advantage of its strength in the climbs and help Greg Van Avermaet. The remaining escapees were caught in the last kilometre and Sonny Colbrelli showed to be the fastest man in the reduced group that arrived together to the end.

Van Avermaet was second on the stage and sits in the second place of the General Classification at 14 seconds from the leader Lutsenko, while AG2R La Mondiale's Clement Venturini crossed the finish line in the third position. Cofidis' Jesus Herrada is in the third overall position at 18 seconds from the rider of Astana.

The fifth stage of the Tour of Oman will be decisive for the General Classification candidates, with its route of 152 kilometres that features a finish at the top of Jabal Al Akhdhar or Green Mountain.
