Astana's Alexey Lutsenko has taken the victory on Green Mountain and confirmed his overall lead with only one stage to go at the Tour of Oman.

The Queen stage was 152 kilometres long between Samayil and Jabal Al Akhdhar or Green Mountain and was set to be decisive for the General Classification aspirations. The escape of the day was created within the first seven kilometres and included riders like Stijn Steels (Roompot-Charles), Fabien Grellier (Direct Energie), Julien Mortier (Wallonie Bruxelles) and Kenneth van Rooy (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise).

This leading group took an advantage of six minutes over the peloton and behind it, teams like Astana and AG2R La Mondiale took turns to set the pace of the pack. The escape group grew smaller until only Grellier remained for the last climb.

The peloton was also reduced considerably during the ascent and Lutsenko attacked with two kilometres to go, the only rider that could follow him was AG2R La Mondiale's Domenico Pozzovivo. With 500 metres to go, the Kazakh champion made a new move and overtook Grellier to take the victory of the stage.

The rider of Direct Energie was the second to cross the finish line ahead of Pozzovivo. UAE Team Emirates' Rui Costa and Arkea-Samsic's Elie Gesbert completed the top five of the day.

Lutsenko sits in the first position of the General Classification at 44 seconds from Pozzovivo and 47 from Cofidis' Jesus Herrada.

The last stage of the Omani race will take the peloton through a 135.5-kilometre route with a finish in Matrah Corniche.
