Dimension Data's Giacomo Nizzolo has taken the victory of the last stage of the Tour of Oman. Alexey Lutsenko arrived safely to the finish line and confirmed his second overall victory in a row in the race.
The last stage at the Omani race was 135.5 kilometres long with an arrival at the Matrah Corniche. The day started with the escape of Nathan van Hooydonck (CCC ProTeam), Adam De Vos (Rally UHC Cycling) and Alexis Guerin (Delko Marseille Provence). The first leader of the 2019 edition of the race, Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) had to abandon after a crash that happened just before the climb of Al Hamriyah, which also affected with fewer consequences Bahrain-Merida's Domenico Pozzovivo.
The escapees were reeled back in by a fast pack with three kilometres to go and everything got prepared for a bunch sprint. Dimension Data's Giacomo Nizzolo showed to have the strongest legs and outsprinted Bahrain-Merida's Sonny Colbrelli and Astana's Davide Ballerini.
"I am super happy about today's victory," said Nizzolo. "The team did a great job all day long. It was not an easy sprint because there were some climbs before reaching the finishing circuit and also there was a kicker with 3km to go. All I can say is I am super happy and thanks to the team, we need to carry on like this now going into the next races."
Lutsenko crossed the finish line with the pack and took the final victory of the race for the second year in a row.
