Matteo Trentin wins second stage of Vuelta a Andalucia

Mitchelton-Scott's Matteo Trentin has taken the victory of the second stage at the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta del Sol. The European Champion outsprinted Danny van Poppel and Ivan Garcia Cortina.
The peloton went through the 216.5-kilometre route in the second stage of the Spanish race that included a rolling second part and a slight ascent in the last kilometres. The escape of the day was formed by six riders and included names like Juan Antonio Lopez (Euskadi Murias), Kevin Van Melsen (Wanty-Gobert) and Alexandr Kulikovskiy (Gazprom RusVelo).
The front men were caught with 20 kilometres to go and the peloton kept pulling fast to face a final suitable for the fast men. With five kilometres to go, Burgos-BH's Jorge Cubero but was reeled back in one kilometre later.
Ivan Garcia Cortina (Bahrain Merida) tried to surprise the peloton by launching a last-metres attack but was caught by the sprinters. European Champion Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) proved to have the better legs and crossed the finish line ahead of Jumbo-Visma's Danny van Poppel, while Garcia Cortina was in the third position.
Lotto-Soudal's Tim Wellens remains in the lead of the General Classification of the Spanish race.
