Patrick Bevin (CCC Team) is set to return to racing in the first edition of the UAE Tour. The New Zealander showed a good performance in the Tour Down Under until he suffered a crash that stopped his GC aspirations.

Bevin won the second stage of the 2019 edition of the Australian race and he wore the leader's jersey from that day until the start of the sixth and last stage. In the fifth stage of the race, the rider crashed in the last 10 kilometres and the peloton waited for him to return before continuing for the final sprint.

The rider suffered multiple contusions and bruised ribs and hip which made it impossible for him to defend the leader's jersey and finished at more than five minutes from the winner Daryl Impey. Now Bevin is ready to return to competition and he will do so in the newly created UAE Tour.

"After the highs and lows of the Tour Down Under, I'm itching to start racing again," the rider commented. "It took some time to shake off my injuries from the crash but I think I have managed them pretty well and I'm starting to get back to where I want to be. It will be good to see what I can do here.

"We will immediately be able to gauge how the team is going with the team time trial on stage one. The first TTT of the year can always bring some surprises, and with a full WorldTour team line-up, it will be a tough challenge but, we will use it as a way of testing ourselves ahead of the rest of the race."

Bevin will be one of the multiple cards that CCC Team will play in the race. "The first test of the race will come on stage one with the opening team time trial," said Sports Director Jackson Stewart. "This will set the scene for the remainder of the race so, as always, we will go there ready to give 100 per cent in this discipline. We have been working hard, in training and with our partners, to be ready for our first TTT as CCC Team. I think all of us are looking forward to seeing what we can do.

"Overall, we will head to the UAE Tour with a well-rounded team. We will focus on the sprints with Jakub Mareczko, who has shown great potential already this year, and then I think Patrick Bevin, who is coming back to strong form after his crash in Australia, could once again produce a good result in the General Classification."

CCC Team's complete roster for the UAE Team Emirates (24th of February to 2nd of March):

Patrick Bevin
Victor De La Parte
Alessandro De Marchi
Jakub Mareczko
?ukasz Owsian
Serge Pauwels
Joey Rosskopf
