Mitchelton-Scott's Matteo Trentin has taken the victory of the last stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta del Sol.

The last stage of the 2019 edition of the Spanish race was also the last opportunity for the sprinters. The route was 164 kilometres long and included some climbs at the beginning but a descent to the end.

The escape of the day included Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), Tomasz Marczinsky (Lotto-Soudal), Antwan Tolhoek (Jumbo-Visma) and Oscar Riesebeek (Roompot-Charles). This group was caught with 25 kilometres to go and two kilometres later Fausto Masnada (Androni Sidemerc) give it a try and created a gap with the pack, but was reeled back in with 18 kilometres to go.

With six kilometres to go, Gazprom-RusVelo's Petr Rikunov also attempted an escape but the motivated peloton caught him three kilometres later. In the last metres, Mitchelton-Scott's Matteo Trentin launched his sprint and nobody could follow, allowing him to take the stage victory by himself.

Enrique Sanz (Euskadi Murias) and Carlos Barbero (Movistar) crossed the finish line in the second and third position, respectively. Astana's Jakob Fuglsang confirmed the overall victory of the race and his teammate Ion Izagirre stepped on the second position of the podium while Jumbo-Visma's Steven Kruisjwijk was on the third.
