Astana's Omar Fraile and Gorka Izagirre have been involved in a crash at six kilometres from the finish line at the UAE Tour. The riders haven't suffered any fractures but have several superficial injuries.

The fourth stage of the Emirati race was full of action due to crosswinds and climbs. The peloton was a bit active from the beginning and that only got worse at six kilometres from the finish, when there was a mass crash in which Fraile and Izagirre were two of the most affected riders.

Both men got up and finished the stage, and were taken after to medical examination. "It was an unlucky day for our team, as our Gorka and Omar were involved in the massive crash only 6 km to go," commented Astana's coach Dmitriy Sedoun.

"Fortunately, they don’t have any fractures, but the guys got quite severe burns and bruises. The team made a very good job today, keeping positions at the front. But, unfortunately, big crash in the first rows of the peloton crosses out all of our hopes for this stage."

The riders have suffered from multiple bruises and it is still uncertain if they are going to continue in the race. Before the fifth stage of the UAE Tour, both will be examined by the doctors and the decision of their continuation will be made then.
