Cofidis' Nacer Bouhanni has arrived out of time in the first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico and has been taken out of the race.
The Frenchman completed the 21.5-kilometre course of the team time trial in 29 minutes and nine seconds, six minutes and 44 seconds behind the winner formation of the day, Mitchelton-Scott. The rest of the French team finished the route in 24 minutes and 19 seconds, with the exception of Dimitri Claeys.
Bouhanni was out of time and can't continue in the Italian race. "Nacer Bouhanni was suffering and weak and was unable to keep the pace of his team in the first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico, a 21.5-kilometre team time trial," said Cofidis in a press release.
"He let go quickly in the team time trial that opened the race and did not manage to meet the deadline. The rider left the race and the day after will undergo additional examinations to find the origin of his poor form."
