Mitchelton-Scott's Simon Yates has taken the win of the individual time trial on day five of Paris-Nice. Michal Kwiatkowski finished the race against the clock in the third position and maintains the GC lead of the race.

The riders faced a 25.5-kilometre individual time trial in the fifth stage of the French race. One of the first riders to set the best time was CCC Team's Will Barta, who finished in the second position twice at the time trial of the U23 American National championships, by stopping the clock at 31 minutes and 56 seconds.

EF Education First's Tom Scully moved the American from the first position when he set a time of 30 minutes and 53 seconds. The stay on the hot seat for the New Zealander finished when Simon Yates stopped the clock at 30 minutes and 26 seconds.

Riders that were considered favourites for the day like Bob Jungels (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) and Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb) finished at 39 and 49 seconds from Yates, respectively. The cause of this could have been the change of wind.

Race leader Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky) finished in the third position at 11 seconds from Yates and holds his first position in the overall classification. Egan Bernal moved to the second GC place and sits at 19 seconds from his teammate.
