Astana's Alexey Lutsenko has taken the victory of the fourth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. The Kazakh rider crashed twice in the last 12 kilometres but was the strongest at the final reduced sprint.

The fourth stage of the Italian race was 221 kilometres long between Foligno and Fossombrone. An escape of two riders was in front for the first part of the route and included Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) and Lluis Mas (Movistar).

With 36 kilometres to go, the escape was caught and several attacks provoked splits in the bunch. A group with favourites like Tom Dumoulin, Jakob Fuglsang, Adam Yates, Primoz Roglic and Alexey Lutsenko was formed in front but soon the Kazakh champion decided to make a move and went away by himself.

At 12 kilometres to go, Lutsenko miscalculated a curve and went off the road, but soon returned to the saddle and barely lost any time. At the last descent of the day, the rider continued in front a few seconds ahead of Roglic, Yates and Fuglsang.

With 1.5 kilometres to go, Lutsenko hit the deck again in another curve and the chasers got closer to him. At half a kilometre from the finish, the trio caught the Astana rider and the four of them went on to face the final meters.

Lutsenko attacked again in the last metres and took the victory of the stage. The rider was followed by Roglic, Yates and Fuglsang.

Yates keeps the lead of the General Classification with an advantage of seven seconds over Roglic.
