Ben O'Connor targets top-ten GC position in Volta a Catalunya

Ben O'Connor will be the main man for Dimension Data at the Volta a Catalunya. Ryan Gibbons is the chosen rider to fight for stage victories on the fast days.
O'Connor finished in the 11th position of the 2018 Volta a Catalunya and comes back to the race to improve from that result. "It’s going to be a really hard week in terms of the parcours," the rider commented. "Last year I surprised myself finishing 11th, so it’s the main aim now to try and be into the top 10.
"The group we have is super strong, with Ryan also our man for the few sprints. It’s one of the main goals going through into the Giro, so it would be great to come out of this with smiles, some results and boxes ticked!"
Gibbons will start his European season at the Spanish race after finishing second in the road race of the South African championships and fourth at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in January. "I’m am looking forward to a good week here at Volta Catalunya," the South African said. "It’s been a while since my last race and I’m eager to see how the form is after a solid start to the season.
"It’s a very strong field here this year, but we have a good group of climbers here and I’m confident I’ll be in the mix in the 'sprint' stages. The weather is also forecast to be pretty good, so fingers crossed it stays that way and we can have a successful week here in Spain."
