Niccolo Bonifazio (Direct Energie) has stated in social media that he is concerned about non-professional riders attempting to copy his descent of the Cipressa of Milano-Sanremo.

The Italian rider attempted to surprise the peloton at the last edition of the first Monument of the season, by attacking on the descent of the Cipressa. Bonifazio then displayed an impressive performance of tactical descent that was at times frightening to watch due to the speed and the way he took every curve of the road.

But something that was impressive in a race situation is now turning to be worrying in the eyes of the rider. "After a couple of days, a cool mind and seeing how things are moving in the web, I am relatively worried," said the Bonifazio through Facebook. "I have realised that there are people that are throwing themselves from the Cipressa in an attempt to 'imitate' me.

"I remind these geniuses that the traffic is open! Don't risk your life for such nonsense! I would better look to imitate the work of those that had the legs to attack on the Poggio and fight for the victory of the race! Be careful!"

Bonifazio also commented that he has kept details of his performance away from the public to discourage amateur riders from trying it themselves. "I did not publish the data of the race on Strava, because I already feared that things like this could happen and I wanted to avoid it," he continued.

"However, this was not the record of the descent of the Cipressa. My record was made on the 17th of March of 2017 in Milano-Sanremo, well before the images that you have seen. This is not a bluff if you go out in some way you have to try to come back, really risking the impossible. So before you try to do anything stupid, realise the risks that these deeds carry."
