CCC Team's Simon Geschke has successfully undergone surgery in the collarbone fracture he suffered at the closing stage of the Volta a Catalunya, but new injuries were discovered.

The bad luck of the German rider continues as new examinations uncovered that he also suffered fractures in four of his ribs. Geschke was involved in the massive crash that happened at 40 kilometres from the finish line at the last stage of the Spanish race in Barcelona.

The rider was taken straight away to the hospital, where X-Rays revealed that he sustained a broken right collarbone that required surgery. That fracture has already been fixed in Germany and now he will have to add the four new fractures to the recovery time.

Geschke had already suffered a broken elbow after hitting the deck at the opening stage of the Vuelta a Murcia. That injury left the German out of competition for a bit more than a month and it is still uncertain for how long he will have to stay off the road after these new fractures.
